What is Star Schema?

Before understanding the term star schema ; its important to know what is schema-

It is like a skeletal structure representing a logical view of whole database. Whenever organization engage in data modelling, it leads to a schema.

Star schema -

· The star schema is a simple data warehouse diagram which resembles a star.

· When you have a central concept and many outer concepts which are linked up with it — is called as star schema.

Contain two important component : One fact table and many dimension table

1. Central table -also known as fact tables which contain facts and measures related to data

2. Outer table -also known as dimension tables that contain attributes of given dimension

Note-

· Each dimension table have one primary key and

· Fact tables contain foreign keys for every dimension table. Example : if 4 dimension table is present then 4 foreign keys will be there.
